Merano Grand Prix Steeplechase
The 5000 metre (25 furlong) steeplechase on the Merano flat race course at Maia Bassa/Untermais is a highlight of the horse racing season and is combined with the Italian national lottery. The annual Merano Grand Prix steeplechase has been captivating racing enthusiasts since 1935. There may be more famous racing events with higher prizes, but the each year Meran Forst steeplechase generates enormous enthusiasm and is especially dearly held among owners, trainers and jockeys. Merano Wine Festival & Gourmet
The Merano International Wine Festival takes place in the sumptuous halls of the art nouveau style Kurhaus. The annual event has become one of the most prestigious of its kind world-wide, providing an opportunity for wine enthusiasts to taste and discuss a wide selection of Europe’s finest wines directly with their producers. Merano music weeks
A quarter century ago, the Merano Music Festival was founded as a chamber music event. Today, the festival calendar comprises three concert series: the symphonic program in the Kursaal, chamber music in the Pavillon des Fleurs (“Matineé Classique”), and the crossover projects in the Stadttheater (“Colours of Music”). The anniversary program shows proof of its outstanding level, having provided the highest quality for 25 years. On August 24, The Cleveland Orchestra under Franz Welser Möst will open the festival. The Artist in Residence is pianist Fazil Say, who may be heard this autumn in Merano four times: on September 14, 16, and 18 with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and on September 15 as a part of a “Turkish Night”.
